Creation of the Committee

View their Memo ›

City council members Richard Fimbres and Regina Romero initiated the creation of the Charter Review Committee with a memo to their colleagues on January 22, 2014. They asked that the committee be placed on a Study Session agenda, and they asked city staff to provide a history of previous charter review committees.

On June 3, the mayor and council formally created the Charter Review Committee. Importantly also on June 3, the mayor and council accepted the three-to-one matching grant from the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona to hire an expert consultant to work with the committee.

Then on July 8, the mayor and council hired Dr. Rafael Sonenshein to be the consultant to the committee.
